Sister Captain Nettie Muhammad


SISTER CAPTAIN NETTIE MUHAMMAD was born November 26, 1923, in Gates Tennessee to Louis Harris and Genora Riley Harris. She was the eldest of nine children.

She reclaimed her own in the Nation of Islam in 1949. She became the Secretary-Treasurer of Muhammad's Temple No. 1 in Detroit, Michigan.

Through her dedication to Islam and her natural desire to help, SISTER NETTIE MUHAMMAD was appointed Captain of the M.G.T. & G.C.C. (Muslim Girls Training and General Civilization Class) in Detroit,  by Messenger Elijah Muhammad, Himself.

Later SISTER NETTIE MUHAMMAD became the National Captain of the M.G.T. for the Nation of Islam, traveling extensively throughout the United States, teaching, training, and guiding sisters in the ways of Islam.

SISTER  CAPTAIN NETTIE MUHAMMAD was highly respected and well loved by all who knew her. From her warm and loving smile, we grew to depend on and appreciate her pearls (words) of wisdom. Her even temperment and fair disposition made her one of the best Captains the Nation of Islam ever had.

SISTER  CAPTAIN NETTIE MUHAMMAD was truly one of Allah's blessings bestowed upon us and to Allah we are forever thankful.

In 1951, she married Brother Benjamin F. Muhammad and to this union three daughters (Carol, Valerie and Marshelia). were born.
