A Little History on Brother E. Majied
Information Submitted by Brother Ahmad Muhammad (5R Films) and Sister
Aquellah Muhammad (Brother Majied's grand daughter)
Historically, F. Lee was an alias. Brother Majied's slave name
was Eugene Rivers. Brother Majied promised to tell me the full story, "one
of these days", but he never got around to it.
Brother Majied started with the name Frank Lee, then F. Lee,
then Lee, then Eugene 3X after processing, then E3X, Eugene XXX and Eugene.
Sometimes he would leave his signature off.
In 1964, The Most Honorable Elijah Muhammad gave Brother Eugene
a Saviour's Day present, the Holy Name of Majied.
All these names ceased and Brother Majied only signed his work
"Majied" after that, also "E. Majied".
Eugene Majied passed away Tuesday, March
1, 2005 at age 79.
Born on Feb. 4, 1926 in Spartanburg
to the late Eugene F. Rivers Sr. and Jeanette James Rivers.
Brother Eugene Majied graduated from Carver
High School in Spartanburg in 1942 and served in the U.S. Navy from 1944-46.
He studied social science
at South Carolina State University in 1947 and went on to earn his degree
in commercial art at the Boston Museum School of Fine Arts.
Bro. Majied was married to
Sis. Mattye Majied, who passed away in 1987. He is survived by his son, Eugene
III; daughters, Janet and Joyce of Philadelphia; and Geanelle Muhammad of
Chicago. He leaves his grandchildren Kaia, Ruqaiyah, John, Malcolm, Aqueelah
Muhammad, Soujourner and Jazmine, as well as Pinckney and cousins Robert
and Mildred Porter.
His memorial service was
Saturday, March 5, 2005 in Spartanburg, SC.
Graveside services were held at Lincoln Memorial
Gardens by J.W. Woodward Funeral Home |
