Reflections of His Life

Brother Lt. Ali Hassan was born Tommy Will Caslin on June 9, 1914 in Barnesville, Georgia. He was the third oldest of four children from the union of the late Johnny and Gertrude Caslin.

He was forced to leave school , completing only the third grade, to help his father work the farm to help support the family.

In the late 1930s Brother Lt. traveled to Detroit, Michigan where he soon found work at Peske's Meat Company where he was employed as a meat grinder until he retired in 1970.

After finding steady work he sent for his childhood friend and sweetheart, Cornelia Rogers, which he soon married and, to this union, seven children were born. He later sent for her mother and her sibling and purchased a house large enough for all of them to live in.

Brother Lt. Ali Hassan was known for his sharp dress, his hard work habits, his loyalty to Messenger Elijah Muhammad's Teachings and his great sense of humor. He always had  a funny story to tell.

He would never leave the house without a shave, a shower and a coordinated outfit. He would proudly cop a lean in his Buick 225 which he kept immaculate.

He was a member of the Elks in the early 1940's and was part of an elite drill team, performing in parades and functions across the country.

In the early 1950's he reclaimed his own in the Nation of Islam and remained a top member of the F.O.I. (Fruit of Islam) until his sunset on May 31, 2005.

Brother Lt. Ali Hassan would chauffer Messenger Elijah Muhammad whenever he was in Detroit. Messenger Elijah Muhammad gave him the name Ali Hassan.

His loved ones that passed before him include; his wife, Cornelia, his brothers; John, Frank and Sylvester and his son; Frank.

He leaves to cherise his memories; four sons, Melvin, Thomas, Sylvester and Johnny; two daughters, Mable and Hazel, six grandchildren; Anthony, Rahman, Taylor, Randy Jr., Pierre, Sona and James; and five great grand children, Dwayne, Asia, Jeremiah, Kierra and Niyah.
